FlightPlanner Features Tour

FlightPlanner is written as a Java Application. It should run equally well on any computer that has the Java 2 Runtime Environment. That includes Windows 95/98/NT, Linux, Solaris, etc. Mac OS/X should also be a suitable platform.

Since Java is a multithreaded language, you can have things happening simultaneously all over the screen at the same time, limited only by available memory and processing power. You can also choose to resize windows, leave some windows up on the screen after computations are completed, and perform other tasks to perform comparisons.

Plot analysis functions permit you to analyze graphical data in detail and with great precision. Most windows also have a menu item for printing the information displayed in that frame.

The FlightPlanner Databases consist of:

  • 105 Sectionals and Area Charts comprising the Continental Unites States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Every effort is made to provide current charts but this cannot be guaranteed. See the Sectional and Terminal Area Chart List for which charts are included. Because of the low cost of the program, updated charts and databases are not provided separately. Ordering the FlightPlanner 2 package ensures the most recently included charts and database as well as any updated versions of the software.
  • nearly 24,000 landing facilities, navaids, and VFR fixes in the United States. A current update of this data base is also provided.
  • communication frequencies for the airports.
  • runway designation, length and width at the airports.
  • fuel economy, climb and cruise performance, and weight and balance data for eight aircraft types:
    • Beechcraft Duchess (BE-76)
    • Cessna 152
    • Cessna 172N
    • Cessna 172S
    • Cessna 182Q
    • Katana (DA-20)
    • Piper Archer II (PA-28-181)
    • Piper Arrow II (PA-28R-200)
  • continental US terrain maximum elevation data to a resolution of one nautical mile.

Randomly selected pastelized background images featuring various Terminal Area Charts enhance the look of the program.

System Requirements: Because of the large size of the Sectional and Terminal Area Chart images, 512MB of memory is recommended to run FlightPlanner. Minimum screen resolution is 1024 x 768, 1600 x 1200 is better. The faster your processor and hard disk the more satisfied you will be with FlightPlanner performance.
