JBallistics Features Tour - Utilities
Calculator Utility functions include a unique on-line calculator with r, x, y, z, and t registers. Perform calculations and use the cut, copy, and paste functions to move the results to data entry fields. JBallistics lets you display multiple help windows on the screen at the same time. The About window displays some useful system information.
Ballistics Calculator A number of ballistics calculations functions are available in a calculations window. Each calculation function is placed in a separate tabbed pane in the calculations window. Of course, you may have more than one of these windows on the screen at the same time. Calculations include: Ballistic Coefficient (from time, velocity, distance), Ballistic Coefficient (from size, weight, bullet form factor), Kinetic Energy, Momentum, Recoil, Form Factor (from size, weight, ballistic coefficient), Form Factor (from bullet shape), Iron Sights Adjustments, Sectional Density, Muzzle Velocity Corrections, Benchrest Shooting Simulation, and Required Barrel Twist.
Bullet Shape Tools The bullet shape tools allow you to draw an actual size image of the bullet on the screen using mouse driven sliders to adjust the depicted image. The bullet is drawn using a number of shape parameters: overall length, nose length, ogive center offset, ogive radius, nose radius, meplat diameter, boattail length, base diameter, and rotating band diameter. This depiction of the bullet is used as inputs to algorithms used to determine a custom drag function for the bullet as well as the other aerodynamic coefficients required for the Modified point Mass Model. A custom drag function may also be specified for use the Point Mass Model as well. Bullet shape data is provided in the database for the standard projectiles used in test firing to determine the standard 'G' functions. Data for the Sierra International .308 and NATO 5.56mm bullets are also provided.
