The aesthetics of the bike can be improved by tending to some of the details. One of these details has to do with the lower quality fasteners used in some places. Others have to do with what is a matter of taste and that is replacing some of the black head fasteners. Desmoparts offers a Stainless Steel Allen Head Screw kit that nicely enhances the quality and look of some of the exposed fasteners on the bike.

One advantage of these Grade 304 or A2-70 Stainless Steel (SS) Screws is that the screw heads will not become scratched with removal and replacement as the black anodized ones will. They should retain their new look for the life of the bike. If your black screw heads are all scratched up as mine were, this is a good solution. Replacing black screws with SS ones I think looks very good.

As a word of caution, the instructions wisely warn against overtightening these fasteners. The use of a low-strength threadblocker (blue loctite) is advised as well. Desmoparts also now recommends the use of an anti-sieze compound for those screws inserted into aluminum threads.

The kit arrives with installation instructions and the fasteners separated into five bags. The screws are contained in bags A through D. Bag E contains all the SS washers.

Bag A contains three M5 screws and 2 washers:

• 2 12mm Flat Head for the handlebar brake fluid reservoir.
• 1 12mm Button Head plus a flat washer and lock washer for the front brake light switch.

Bag B contains 16 M5 screws:

• 1 12mm Button for the throttle housing.
• 4 12mm Buttons for the fairing inserts (2 each) replacing the phillips head screws.
• 2 14mm Buttons for underneath the windscreen.
• 6 14mm Buttons for the windscreen.
• 2 16mm Buttons for the rider footpegs.
• 1 20mm Button for the right side passenger footpeg (closest to exhaust).

Bag C contains 6 M5 screws and 6 nylon washers:

• 2 25mm Buttons for the choke lever housing.
• 1 30mm Button for the right side passenger footpeg (screw furthest from exhaust)
• 2 30mm Buttons for the left side passenger footpeg.
• 1 50mm Button for the throttle housing.
• 6 nylon washers for the windscreen screws (Bag B)

Bag D contains 34 M6 Screws:

• 2 12mm Buttons for the radiator screen.
• 6 12mm Buttons for the right and left side airbox covers.
• 1 12mm Button for the horn mount.
• 2 12mm Buttons for the rear brake line mounts.
• 2 12mm Buttons for the chain guard.
• 4 12mm Buttons for the license plate.
• 1 20mm Button for the clutch lever bracket.
• 1 20mm Button for the rear brake reservoir mount.
• 1 20mm Button for the chain guide.
• 2 20mm Cap Screws for the brake lever mount.
• 8 20mm Cap Screws for the air intake boots under the seat.
• 2 25mm Buttons for the front fender mounts right and left side by reflector.
• 2 25mm Buttons for the front reflectors.

Bag E contains 19 washers plus 4 nuts.

• 1 Large M6 Fender washer for the chain guide.
• 4 Medium M5 Fender washers for the fairing insert screws.
• 2 Small M6 Flat washers for screws under the windscreen.
• 2 Small M6 Flat washers for the rear brake line guide.
• 2 Small M6 Flat washers for the chain guard.
• 4 M5 Tiny washers for the passenger footpeg screws.
• 4 M6 Lock Washers for the license plate screws.
• 4 M6 nuts for the license plate screws.

Unused and therefore not shown in photos above:

• Right and left airbox cover screws (I already had those).
• Footpeg screws since my footpegs are the LP Super Pole adjustable pegs.
• Air intake bolts since they are out of view under the seat. But, I will install them the next time I examine or replace the air filter.
• Top two license plate screws since I have blue logo reflectors mounted there.
• Reflector mount screws since I removed the front reflectors some time ago.
